Don Taylor Two-Day Plein Air Workshop

Sketchbook Watercolor Journaling with pen and ink

Saturday and Sunday, October 1-2, 2022

Don Taylor, world class instructor, past president of the Southern Watercolor Society and award winning artist, has traveled around the world keeping watercolor journals of his adventures. In this workshop he shares his methods and & “secrets” to capturing the moment in watercolor.

Taylor has journeyed all over the world with his sketchbook creating small masterpieces that capture the sights and emotions of the scene he is experiencing. He loves to share his knowledge with his students.

His paintings employ a combination of realism and impressionism, with a touch of abstract design. Teaching students to evoke the same feeling to the viewer that they felt when first seeing the subject, i.e., the sense that there is more to the subject than a mere rendering. Lights, darks, bold colors, lost edges and more come together to recreate that feeling while applying the illusion of detail so that viewers can use their imagination to complete the image. Students become adept at Don’s “less is more” philosophy.

Classes will be held at the Havana AHA (Artists Helping Artists) workshop as well as in outdoor Havana. Individual mentoring will occur as well as group instruction. Students are responsible for their own supplies and sketchbook. In case of rain, the class may be held on October 29-30.
