Awards should start around 6:30. We will provide water, ice and some snacks.
Exhibiting artists are asked to bring small plated snacks as well.
Parking is available at Kleman Plaza and in metered spots downtown. There are
often a lot of spots on Park Ave just west of the Doubletree Hotel and nearby
along Adams St. Meters are free after 6 PM. So if you want to use them (flat
walk, no hill like at Kleman), you could arrive a little earlier and put in a
few coins to get you to 6.
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. If you have questions, please contact

Announcing we have our first upcoming Tallahassee Watercolor
Society general meeting of the season this Sunday, September 15th, at 2:00 pm.
The meeting will be held at Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1700 N.
Meridian Rd Tallahassee, FL 32303, in the Parlor.
Multi-talented and award-winning artist Mark Georgiades will be speaking at our
meeting. He will talk about how he became interested and involved in art along
with his background and influences. He will describe how he goes about creating
a project from the idea to the finished project.
Havana, Florida based artist, Mark Georgiades has been honing his skills as a
sculptor and a painter for many years. He blends his skills as a mechanic and
his love of art to create his welded metal sculpture. Mark works with steel,
copper, and aluminum which is welded together to form his unique structure.
Mark’s inspiration comes from nature and fantasy. He likes to create edgy work,
usually distorting the size and proportion of his subjects. Mark uses color and
the illusion of motion to create “mood” within his sculptures.
While Mark has always been involved in his art to some extent in the past, he
has been focusing primarily on his art since 2014.
We look forward to seeing you there at the meeting and to a great year ahead!
MaryO Smith (Professional Artist)
Workshop Description: The emphasis of this workshop will explore the fundamentals of drawing, perspective, design/composition, contrast, basic watercolor washes/ mixtures, color relationships, value studies & color studies from photos and life, and how to simplify what we see in front of us. We will also explore how mood, atmosphere, and story can bring more meaning to your painting. Each day will start and end with a demo on a different subject related to the day’s focus. You can join in and paint along with me, or just listen. I will talk about the materials used and explain my thoughts as I paint. Questions are encouraged. They keep me awake, so speak up! There will be plenty of one-on-one guidance and a question/answer session daily. A class critique will be conducted at the end of each day.

Debra Lachter (Alcohol Inks Expert Artist)
Bio and Alcohol Ink description for Alcohol Ink presentation to Tallahassee Watercolor Society
Debra Sue Lachter began her art journey after an earlyretirement from teaching elementary school. In her early years of raising two daughters, Debra danced in a semi-professional dance company and taught Creative Movement to young children. No longer dancing, Debra found a creative outlet she is passionate about: creating art. Her first love is watercolor but she happily creates with many other mediums including visual journaling, collage, acrylic and alcohol ink. Debra says that Alcohol Inks give her the freedom to let go and enjoy the process without any expectations.
Alcohol Inks are dye based, vibrant pigments that are used on non-porous surfaces such as, glass, ceramic, glossy paper and Yupo, a synthetic paper. Alcohol ink has been around for a while and originally was used in scrapbooking. It’s has only been used in fine art creation for a relatively short time. Creating with alcohol inks is fun and exciting; the vibrant colors, many approaches and happy accidents create verydynamic and interesting results.

Program: Senior Artist Programs Manager and Artist Sam McCoy of the Thomasville Center for the Arts
Sam McCoy was born and raised in Orlando, Florida in the 90s. She is a contemporary painter who focuses on the boundaries between natural and hyperreal landscapes of the South. She pulls her inspirations from a place where spectacles and roadside attractions dominate America's tourism capital. Between eco-tourism destinations and constructed gardens, McCoy explores the contradictions of her experiences in these places. By pulling back the metaphorical curtain on a carefully crafted image of Florida and other southern states, McCoy’s ideas of disenchantment and re-enchantment are enacted in each painting. The viewer can still find meaning in the shadier discordant corners of the area.
McCoy received her BFA from the University of Central Florida and her MFA from Florida State University. She has taught design, drawing, and painting at Florida State University, and several workshops in Florida and Georgia. Currently she’s the Senior Artist Programs Manager at Thomasville Center for the Arts and continues to work in her home studio in Tallahassee frequenting picturesque springs and roadside citrus stands.
